Hey hey remember when Beyonce made “Why Don’t You Love Me?” and Sade made “Babyfather” and both videos subjectively occupied vintage femininity while deconstructing gender, race and class and white feminists were like ‘LOL that’s not new or interesting’ but Lana Del Rey makes a self-insert Kennedy fanfic video and suddenly they’re all writing theses about her eyeliner wings
Because if you pay close attention to Beyonce (and if you are hating on her you are), she kind of is singing about some pretty OK stuff. It is very important to learn how to kick dumb dudes who mistreat you to the left, to the left. And if you can get past the Uh oh’s uh oh’s uh oh no no no’s, she is very clearly about empowering women to embrace who they are and be who they want to be. And I thought that’s what all this damn feminism, womanism, and general lifeism thing was all about, anyway?

You know, equality is a myth, and for some reason, everyone accepts the fact that women don’t make as much money as men do. I don’t understand that. Why do we have to take a backseat? I truly believe that women should be financially independent from their men. And let’s face it, money gives men the power to run the show. It gives men the power to define value.
